George Liquor ink

Still brushing up on my illustrator inking, Mr. Guimond's recent inks of John K's George Liquor inspired me to do the same. The drawing on the right is the original drawing from John K's blog.
I'm trying to follow the advice he's given Ryan about using weight variation on the lines.

SHNORG!

Cool sites!

Last weekend I attended the Pitchfork Music Festival here in Chicago and found some cool stuff in the screen printed poster area.
The following 3 artists were the standouts in my opinion:
http://galaxyreno.com/
http://www.myassociatecornelius.com/
http://www.spikepress.com/index.php
check them out! they're fun!

also I stumbled upon the blog of the former Bolt director, Chris Sanders, definitely worth a look. Don't forget to read his weekly Kiskaloo comic strip.

I need to make something creative.

Onward...

Yesterday I graduated, and now I am fully engaged in my job hunt. It has been a challenging 3 years at art school, and I look forward to the future.

Since I haven't mentioned it yet here, my website with my Demo Reel is located at www.thomas-moore.net, check it out! Let me know what you think!

I have important things to do...

...but instead I spent a little too long working on these, which, for some reason, count as my final project in biology. art school is weird.

DVD cover sketch! Animation Show!

working on my dvd cover for my reel, still needs some lovin.

The Animation Show Year 4 premiered in Chicago last Friday with Bill Plympton in attendance showing his latest short HotDog. Lots of great stuff, Gobelins had a big showing this year with 4 or 5 films. Key Lime Pie by Trevor Jiminez was my favorite, and the Psychotown segments by Dave Carter were rather entertaining as well. Go see it if you can!

Life drawing 2

Finished the second long pose in my life drawing class at the School of Representational Art. Again the quality of the picture isn't the finest, but I promise scans of both the drawings pretty soon.

On a side note, Cartoon Brew posted a link to a really cool example of video reference by Jeff Gabor from Horton Hear's a Who! Check it out!

Here's something I'm workin on! Still early, but never too early to hear some feedback:

Also here's a roughcut of my demo reel
nothing's final, but I'll gladly take some comments on order/pacing/anything it's severely lacking or any other suggestions.

Suggested Readings

So I want to start saying things on this. I thought I'd begin by occasionally posting links to things I run across and find interesting.

I picked up a copy of Cartoon Modern by Amid Amidi(been wanting it for a while). I find it incredibly inspiring. It gives an overview of the modern cartoon design of the 1950's. Because I'm impatient, I purchased mine at Borders for $40, those interested but don't mind waiting on shipping can find it on Amazon for considerably less.

Speaking of Amid Amidi, his website Cartoon Brew, Co-run by Jerry Beck is an excellent resource for news and history of the world of animation. Check it out!

Animation studies released volume 2 of their publications, I haven't read through much of it yet, but it seems to be interesting (though a bit dry). You can find it here.

My Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground vinyl came in the mail today, and it excites me.

Progress is continuing on the senior group project at school, "A Finer Diner." I created a couple title cards

and here's an unrelated sketch!
